On Christmas of 2014, we were hosting several family members and friends in our new home.
The day was going to be a flurry of cooking, eating, and entertaining.
We were up early so we could steal the few moments we knew we would have alone all day.
I knew we wouldn't have time together alone once everyone started showing up.
The rest of the morning and lunch time went so quickly for me - I was rushing around cooking and preparing for our Christmas feast, entertaining and directing our friends and family who were eager to help get all the food to the table.
For Andrew, though it was not the same story; the clock just wasn't moving, lunch didn't come quick enough, and "when could we open presents?" - for crying out loud!
After Andrew having asked to open presents about five times, the group finally shifted to the living room and gifts were dispersed.
Once all gifts had been opened, the only thing left was my stocking.
Andrew and I had been talking about adopting a dog to share our new home, so naturally when I found dog treats in my stocking; I secretly thought Andrew was going to surprise me with a puppy.
As he pulled out the ring, while kneeling in front of me, he said, "I didn't get you a puppy, but will you take me instead?"
With our friends and family looking on, I said yes through tears of joy. |
